 Autism Society of Alabama Announces Birmingham Board Members

The Autism Society of Alabama (ASA) is pleased to announce the election of nine Birmingham residents to the Board of Directors.  These members have been elected to serve a two-year term.

Bill Pearson has been elected President of the Board of Directors. He is entering into his third year on the board.  Mr. Pearson is Senior Vice President of Pearson, Hand, & Chua Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.  He is the grandfather of a child with autism.

Jonathan Nelson has been elected Treasurer for the ASA Board of Directors.  He is the General Manager for the Birmingham Barons baseball team and has served for over three years on the organization’s Fundraising Committee. 

Ryan Thomas is the Immediate Past President of the ASA Board of Directors.  He is an Engineering Manager for Southern Company and has a son with autism.

Ben Carlisle is a Branch Manager Assistant at Regions Bank.  He is one of the founders of ASA’s Junior Board (2007) and a Junior Board past president.  

Rodney Harbin operates his family business, Wellness Pharmacy, in Homewood.  Rodney’s sister was diagnosed with Asperger’s which has furthered his knowledge and interest in serving the autism community.

Matt Moore and his family operate Moore Nissan in Bessemer.  He has served on ASA’s Fundraising Committee for over three years. 

Jodie Smith works in public finance for Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C.  He serves as general counsel for ASA and has a son on the spectrum. 

Nathan Smith has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006 and previously served as Treasurer.  He is a Litigation Specialist for Infinity Insurance Company, and he has a daughter on the spectrum.

The Autism Society of Alabama is the state’s leading source for information on autism and assists families in navigating the service delivery system.

The Autism Society of Alabama’s mission is “To improve services for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families through education and advocacy.”  ASA provides families in Alabama with networking groups, conferences and seminars, family camps, awareness, and information.
