AIACC Sets Goals for Development of Alabama’s Approach to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

The Alabama Interagency Autism Coordinating Council (AIACC) completed a strategic plan for further development of the AIACC.  The AIACC was created by Governor Bob Riley and the Alabama Legislature in 2008 to coordinate the state’s system of care for Alabama families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  The Strategic Plan of the AIACC presents the adopted value statements as well as the 6 core goals that will direct future development of the AIACC.  The goals for the Alabama Interagency Autism Coordinating Council are

  1.  Professional Partnerships:  Cultivate an overarching environment of understanding, communication, collaboration, and consensus-building among the AIACC that extends to the Alabama Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Community.
  2. Public Awareness:  Raise public awareness of issues and needs affecting persons living with ASD and their families across the lifespan.
  3. Accountability:  Support evidence-based, high quality, cost effective models and best practices that provide supports to persons with ASD and their families.
  4. Funding:  Identify and promote opportunities and create the infrastructure for diversified public and private partnerships for needed funding.
  5. Professional Training:  Increase the number of qualified and competent ASD trained professionals and providers of services.
  6. Accessibility:  Increase the choice among and access to quality services and supports for persons living with ASD and their families.
