AUTISM SOCIETY TO HOST 14TH ANNUAL AUTISM-ASPERGER FROG AFFAIR

More than 250 guests are to attend this exciting event in support of the organization and its mission!

BIRMINGHAM, ALA –   Loneliness and uncertainty are what Jenny Stephens felt when her son Patrick was first diagnosed with autism. Jenny’s initial feelings are far too common among families who have a loved one diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Jenny along with others throughout the state find support, understanding, and acceptance by becoming involved with a local Autism Networking Group.

Autism Networking Groups sponsored by the Autism Society of Alabama are just one of the many programs that the 14th Annual Autism-Asperger FROG Affair supports. ASA will host the FROG Affair on October 7th, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at WorkPlay located at 500 23rd Street South.

“This event will be a time to celebrate, while embracing a disorder that now affects 1 in every 110 individuals,” said Melanie Jones, Executive Director of the Autism Society of Alabama. The FROG Affair receives its name from the ASA mascot and means “For Research, Outreach and Giving Support” to the autism and Asperger syndrome community.

This year, the FROG Affair will offer live music by Blind Dawg, dinner buffet by Imperial Catering, a signature cocktail provided by Sobeski Vodka, and both silent and live auctions. Wonderful vacations and items have been donated; including the “Luck of the Irish” Package, which is a 7 night stay in an “International Penthouse” in Kinsale, Ireland.  Other items include a “Magic City” Package (four course dinner for 6 at Ocean Restaurant in Birmingham, your choice of a classic/vintage car accommodation, and one night stay for two at Aloft Hotel in Homewood), gift certificates, rare and beautiful jewelry, and much more!

Reserved seating is available for sponsors and tickets are $85 per person. ASA Board members include: Bill Pearson, President, Birmingham; Ryan Thomas, Immediate Past President, Birmingham; Peggy Stephens, Vice President, Huntsville; Jonathan Nelson, Treasurer, Birmingham; Nancy Barnes, Huntsville; Tracy Camp, Tuscaloosa; Ben Carlisle, Birmingham; Christy Chambers, Argo; Suzanne Dowling, Tuscaloosa; Rod Harbin, Birmingham; Mathew Maini, Gadsden; Matt Moore, Birmingham; Jenny Morris, Huntsville; Andrea Plante, Gulf Shores; Lisa Riley, Tuscaloosa; Hanes Swingle, M.D., Mobile; Jodi Smith, General Counsel, Birmingham.
