TOPIC: Savings accounts - Retirement

Savings accounts - Retirement 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Does anyone know if there is a program available for saving money for my autistic son for retirement or needs later in life?

Something like maybe a 401k that grandparents or others could donate to as well.

I am not really sure where to start with this and any guidance would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks,

John

Try consulting an attorney to set up a special needs trust. There are strict stipulations by the state as to how much money can be in your child's name and to have them eligible for any type of state assistance as an adult. Good luck!

The State of Alabama has such a program. I believe it is set up like a special needs trust.

There are lawyers part of something called the Special Needs Alliance that deal specifically with these type issues. There are 2 lawyers in Alabama who are part of that group. To find their contact info, go to: www.specialneedsalliance.com.
