Calhoun County Autism Awareness Program 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hey Everyone:
There will be a speaker (local author of book That's Life With Autism) and panel discussion with various area professionals (speech, psychologist, service coordinator, teacher from Saks High Autism unit) at the Anniston public Library on Thurs. April 17 at 6:30 p.m. If you live in the area and can support this program please come--we need to know what is needed in this area! Spread the word!

Thanks,
Donna Satterlee Ross

Oh Donna I wish I had logged on here soon enough to attend the meeting. I actually live in Dekalb but my husband and I are looking at moving to Shelby Co or another county where we can best supply my soon with the most opportunities. Dekalb and Cherokee has absolutely nothing to offer at this time. Does the Anniston area offer help? My husband works at the Depot and we might be interested in relocated to your county instead of Shelby. If anyone can assist us with what is offered in Shelby, Jefferson or St Clair counties please let us know, we are getting desperate.
Thanks

So any luck in the Anniston area? We might be moving there soon (to work at the Depot)
I am REALLY SCARED and concerned about my daughter's needs. From what I'm reading on here, Al doesn't seem too resourceful/helpful. It's making me not what to move.

GatorGirl,
My suggestion would be if you haven't already bought a house, to look for one in the Saks school district area of Calhoun County. We do not have first hand experience but we have heard that they have good autism classes (in fact one of the speakers at the library was from the Saks schools). We are currently in the Anniston City School system and may be considering a move to Saks in the future for this reason if we can not get improved situation. I would be interested in hearing from anyone on the message board who does have first hand experience with the Saks schools to get their opinion.
