TOPIC: Moving to Huntsville?

Moving to Huntsville? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Our family is contemplating on moving to Huntsville from Central Florida. I was wondering how you all feel about availability of services in the area? (Speech, O.T., ABA, schools, I.E.P.'s, Family training, behavior Analysts)

Services where we live now are poor at best. Especially for preschoolers or younger.

Any info would be great.

There are many resources in the area. You should contact the Special Education Coordinators in each school system as well as get in contact with our support group leader in Huntsville.Huntsville City SPED Coordinator is Dr. Amosene Sledge-256-428-6872, Madison City Ms. Maria Kilgore 256-464-8370x233, and Madison County Dr. Susan A. Currie 256-852-7073x243. As far as Speech, OT, and ABA there are several providers I can put you in touch with please call me at 205-951-1364. The huntsville support group leader is Debbie Bumbicka. You can reach her through email by This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

My family and I just moved to the Huntsville area in April. I'll be honest with you, if you are going through EI, you might be a little disappointed. The therapists are great, don't get me wrong. Luke has made huge strides thatks to them. The number of hours of care you'll get are low though. Luke gets three hours a week total. ABA is not offered through EI. I know there is a lot of private care here, and I think the Riley center has ABA preschool. I can't give any recommendations though, we only have used EI.

The local autism society is good though, I'd would recommend that.

Hey I just found your thread on the message boads. Are you still planning on moving to Huntsville? I know that Applied behavioral COncepts has services imbedded in a preschool and recently got grants for their state first grade program. They have a SLP on site and fmaily training. The best part is NO WAITING LIST!
