Join the Autism Society of Alabama as we go to Camp ASCCA in Jackson's Gap, AL on September 17-19, 2010! ASA's Fall Family Camp allows children (ages 6-18) and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder to experience camp in a traditional setting with all the supports needed for success. Easter Seals Camp ASCCA is a place where dreams come true for people of all abilities. Located on Lake Martin, Camp ASCCA has been serving people with disabilities for more than 32 years. It is the world's largest year-round barrier-free camp! For more information on the camp, visit www.campascca.org. The philosophy of Camp ASCCA is to offer an exciting program geared to the age, interest, and abilities of its campers. This involves learning new skills; making new friends; participating in programs such as swimming, canoeing, boating, fishing, arts & crafts, talent show, horseback riding, archery, climbing, and zip line. Who Can Attend? The Autism Society of Alabama will host 30 families for the 5th Annual Fall Camp. Scholarships will be provided for one child (age 6-18) on the autism spectrum and one parent per family. If accepted, a $25 non-refundable deposit will be required. Additional family members are welcome to attend at a cost of $110 per child (children must be at least 6 years old to attend) and $70 per parent. All children will be able to participate in the planned activities together. If possible, there should be one parent for each child in attendance. *ASA members receive priority; please make sure your membership is current. What is the Schedule? Check-in begins Friday, September 17th at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. There will be a traditional camp activity Friday evening. Families will rotate through activities in groups Saturday and Sunday (morning). A talent show will be held Saturday night - come prepared to show us your talent and/or to cheer on your fellow campers! Where do we Eat? Meals are served family-style in the Dining Hall. Feel free to bring personal food for children on restricted diets. There are refrigerators and microwaves in the two main lodges. Where do we Sleep? There are two lodging options available at Camp ASCCA. There are 20 rooms that sleep four (two sets of bunk beds) with a private shower. There are also 2 dorm-style lodges with two rooms of 16 bunks each, bathroom stalls, and a community shower. Due to limited space, first-time campers have preference for lodging in private rooms. Dorm-style lodging will be provided for all other campers (must be a father/son or mother/daughter grouping).
