Information & Referral

The Autism Society of Alabama (ASA) responds daily to requests for information. Our toll-free Information and Referral Line, 1-877-4AUTISM, receives more than 3,000 calls a year. We maintain a resource list of services that have been recommended by families and professionals. Additionally, families may call to access written information on a variety of topics.

Parent Support and Sibling Support

ASA has support groups to address a variety of issues. Monthly meetings in a variety of settings throughout the state provide support and information, guest speakers, informative topics, and question and answer sessions. Sibling support groups are also provided throughout the year.

Lending Library

ASA has over 200 books and tapes on autism spectrum disorders that are available to our members. Books can be checked out through the office at 4778 Overton Road Birmingham, AL  35210. Quarterly Newsletter

Membership in the Autism Society of Alabama includes a hard copy subscription to With a Loud Voice, our quarterly newsletter. With A Loud Voice includes the following features:

• "Support Group Corner" provides up to date information on statewide support groups.
• "Community Information" includes information on upcoming seminars, conferences and workshops offered statewide.
• "Angels for Autism" provides us an opportunity to thank our donors.

Education & Awareness

ASA collaborates with various state and local agencies to increase awareness in the community, schools, and in the medical and professional arenas to promote education, understanding, resources, and to encourage the early diagnosis of autism. World Wide Web Site

ASA maintains a web site that provides up to date information and provides direct links to other important informational sites. Our web site also acts as a source of support for families and parents of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. It also averages one million hits per year.
